God promises his children a hopeful future filled with good plans (Jeremiah 29:11). Your plans in 2020 more than likely did not go as planned. However, God was still in control of taking care of you and your needs.
As 2020 is coming to an end I want to remind that you are not without direction, and you are not alone. Instead of looking at what didn’t happen, why not look at the good things that did happen?
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus”
Have you noticed how quick we can come up with a list of what is wrong, or complain about our circumstances. Yet it is so difficult at times to come up with a list of what we are grateful for. Can we even be grateful in the midst of unsettling circumstances or altered plans?
Let’s be transparent and vulnerable for a moment. I think it is much harder to have an attitude of gratitude when things go according to our desires. However, we gotta encourage one another daily just like Hebrews 3:13 teaches us: “But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called “Today,” so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness.”
So today let’s choose to be :
1. Grateful
Write down what you are grateful for, including telling the people in your life how much you appreciate them. Ephesians 5:20 “always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
2.Optimistic
Aim to think of good outcomes rather than expecting things to go wrong. Philippians 4:8 “Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable--if anything is excellent or praiseworthy--think about such things.”
3. Prayerful
Turns your thoughts into prayers to God. He knows already what you need or will talk about before you come to Him. He is more than willing and able to intervene on your behalf.
1 Thessalonians 5:17 says: pray without ceasing
Lastly, enjoy the moments with loved ones and cherish them with each other as much as you can.
